As a Donation Center Volunteer, you will be assisting in the heart of Working Wardrobes. There are two primary roles that our volunteers typically assume while helping out here: Donor Engagement & Quality Control.

What you will be doing: 

Donor Engagement

You will be the first point of contact to incoming donors while offering a concierge-like service as they pull up with their donations. Your friendly smile and engaging disposition will welcome our donors while offering assistance with unloading their donations. This role takes place in the carport and donation center lobby. Tasks include:

Accepting clothes and accessories from donors at the front of the warehouse. Sorting clothing and changing out hangers. Administering tax receipt forms. Sharing information about our programs and retail stores.

Ability to push/pull/lift/carry up to 10 lbs and twist/bend at waist level required. Some comfortability speaking with the public and fluent English is recommended for this role.

Quality Control

You will be working to ensure that donations meet our high standards so that we can provide the best quality for our clients and retail stores. This role takes place inside the warehouse. Tasks include:

Ensuring clothes are on the appropriate hangers. Inspecting clothing and accessories to ensure that they meet quality control standards. Categorizing items for distribution. Inventory special projects.

Ability to push/pull/lift/carry up to 10 lbs and twist/bend at waist level required. Ability to work independently and in small groups is recommended for this role.

 

We welcome minors (14 years and older) with a supervising adult and 16 years or older individually with legal guardian consent.

Safety Measures: Masks are optional. Gloves are recommended while handling donations and will be provided. Ability to push/pull/lift/carry up to 10 lbs and twist/bend at waist level required.

What to Wear:

Closed-toed & comfortable shoes required. Dress for the weather; layers recommended (work may be indoors/outdoors). Hats & sunglasses are OK as well.

What to Bring:

Refillable water bottles encouraged. Snack/lunch for energy. Refrigerator and microwave available for use.

**OneOC Community Service Volunteers: Please bring you ID and any court paperwork on your 1st day. Ensure you are registered with the Community Service User Group before signing up.

Every hanger you straighten, display you arrange, and smile you share helps fund programs that empower clients to achieve meaningful employment—with $0.87 of every dollar in sales supporting Working Wardrobes programs and services.

What You’ll Do

Welcome customers warmly and offer exceptional, friendly service.

Assist with daily store operations such as merchandising, restocking, tagging, organizing displays, and light cleaning.

Create visually engaging displays that reflect current fashion trends and Working Wardrobes’ signature style.

Collaborate with retail staff and fellow volunteers to keep the boutique running smoothly.

Share the mission—help customers understand how their purchases make an impact.

Who You Are

18 years or older

Friendly, approachable, and community-minded

Comfortable standing for extended periods and able to lift up to 15 lbs

Enthusiastic about fashion, customer service, and giving back

A great communicator who enjoys connecting with others

Time Commitment

Shifts available Tuesdays and Saturdays, ideally between 11:00 AM – 2:00 PM

Volunteers do not need to commit to both days or full-day shifts—flexibility is welcome

This intern will monitor the volunteer email and portal, assist with day-to-day People Operations administrative duties and compliance, and help create onboarding materials for volunteers and interns. They will also gain experience responding to inquiries from supervisors, volunteers, and employees, and contribute to special projects and learning/training material updates. Marketing Internship The Marketing Intern will work directly with the Marketing Coordinator on organization-wide branding, communications, and campaign efforts. This intern will assist with social media content and scheduling (Hootsuite, Canva), support email marketing campaigns in Constant Contact, and help manage website and newsletter updates in WordPress. They will also develop creative assets using Canva and Adobe InDesign, and support event marketing and promotional materials that reinforce the organization's brand and mission. Social Enterprise Marketing Internship The Social Enterprise Marketing Intern will work directly with the Social Enterprise Director and store managers across Working Wardrobes' retail and donation operations. This intern will visit store locations and the Donation Center to capture photo and video content, write and publish Instagram content, and design graphics using Canva. They will also support live streams, in-store event promotion, and register support, developing "shopping success stories" that connect customer experience to community impact. Development Internship The Development Intern will work directly with the Development Team to learn and support in areas of development, stewardship, relationship management, and nonprofit fundraising. The position will focus on assisting in a large project to overhaul our donor database. This individual will learn the ins and outs of our CRM (Customer Relationship Management) system used to engage with our donor base and help to streamline processes and procedures to ensure efficiency while focusing on donor stewardship. As a Personal Stylist Volunteer at Working Wardrobes, you'll play a key role in helping job seekers look and feel their best for interviews and workplace success. You'll provide personalized wardrobe services to empower clients with the confidence and self-esteem they need to succeed—all from our inspiring Wardrobe Center located in the Career Success Center in Santa Ana.

What You'll Do:

Create a safe, welcoming, and encouraging environment for clients.

Review upcoming appointments and prepare clothing selections by size and style.

Work one-on-one with clients to coordinate professional and business casual outfits.

Assist with merchandising, seasonal updates, and inventory tasks to keep the Wardrobe Center fresh and functional.

Perform daily operations like tagging, labeling, processing go-backs, clearing dressing rooms, and updating displays.

Who You Are:

18 years or older

Friendly, helpful, and compassionate

Comfortable standing for extended periods and able to lift up to 15 lbs

A strong communicator with a great sense of style and awareness of businesswear trends

Excited to engage with a diverse group of clients, staff, and volunteers

Time Commitment:

Special Wardrobing Events held throughout the year (Weekdays Only)

Weekly or biweekly availability (2–4 hours per week)

Shifts available Monday–Thursday, between 9 AM – 1 PM

Appointments typically last 1–2 hours

Help Create Positive First Impressions—Become a Front Desk Ambassador!

About the Role
Do you enjoy connecting with people and creating a welcoming environment? Looking to build or contribute administrative and customer service skills? Join Working Wardrobes as a Front Desk Ambassador Volunteer in our Career Success Center!

As the first point of contact, you’ll play a vital role in shaping each visitor’s experience—greeting guests, answering phones, and supporting our team with administrative projects that keep our mission moving forward.

Schedule & Commitment (Please Read Carefully)

Shifts available Monday–Friday: 8:00 AM–1:00 PM or 1:00 PM–5:00 PM Commitment to one shift per week Minimum 3-month commitment required Note: Tuesday morning (8–1) is currently unavailable

We especially welcome volunteers interested in a longer-term opportunity—many of our Front Desk Ambassadors have been with us for 3+ years!

About the Role

The Working Wardrobes Retail Stores are staffed by dedicated, enthusiastic, fun-loving retail volunteers with a strong sense of style and a desire to give back to their community. $0.87 of every dollar in sales benefits Working Wardrobes programs and services!

Responsibilities:

Greeting customers in a timely, professional, and engaging manner. Performing daily store operation tasks such as stocking, re-merchandising, assisting with display arrangements, adjusting price markdowns, and light cleaning. Engaging cooperatively with retail staff to create a welcoming and pleasant customer service experience.

Qualifications:

Ability to stand for periods of time. Ability to lift, push, pull, and carry up to 15lbs. Possess a friendly and helpful attitude. Possess communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to interact and engage with retail staff and customers. Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment. Customer service experience and knowledge/enthusiasm about fashion are a PLUS!

Time Commitment:

1-3 days/week; 3 hrs/day. Tuesday – Saturday; mid-day availability. (Stores currently open 11am-6pm)
